Junior & Senior Families,

By law, we are required to release certain student information to military recruiters for juniors and seniors. However, families have the option to opt out of having this information shared, as outlined in the school handbook.

This information will be sent out this month. If you do not want your student’s information shared with the military, you must email Cindy Murrell at cmurrell@warsawk12.org by this Friday, October 9.

Your email should state:

"Mrs. Murrell,

I wish for __________ (student’s first and last name) student’s information not to be shared with the military."

Once again, you do NOT need to take any action unless you do not want your student’s information shared.

Q&A

Q: What information will be shared?
A: Student’s name, mailing address, gender, and home phone number.

Q: Is this for the draft?
A: No. This information is only provided for the purpose of allowing military recruiters to contact students. Selective Service registration is a separate requirement for males and must be completed by age 18.

Q: Will this create a hounding situation?
A: It should not. In most cases, students may receive some informational literature in the mail, and there may be a phone call from some branches of the military.

If excessive or repeated calls occur, please block the number and let the high school office know the recruiter’s name, branch, and how many times they have called. We will report the situation to their superiors. Multiple branches have told me that excessive phone calls do not work to their benefit, so repeated calls may not necessarily be legitimate.
