Today, all of the Millionaire Readers from South Elementary were treated to lunch at El Camino Real. These students each read over 1 million words using the accelerated reader program. This accomplishment took a lot of dedication and hard work, and we are so pleased to honor these students!

Yesterday, all South students, preschool through 5th grade, participated in a fun-filled day of outdoor games, water activities, and much more. The South PTO provided popsicles for all students. We were very grateful that the weather cooperated for the most part. What a great way to help close out the school year! Tomorrow (5/16) will be our last day, which is a half-day dismissal.

Today was a beautiful day for a field trip! Third-grade students at South had the awesome privilege of traveling to the state Capitol in Jefferson City. Students toured the Capitol, met legislators, and even had Representative Roger Ready provide pizza for lunch. The students had a great experience and tied in a lot of learning with the 3rd grade Missouri History & Government units.

Yesterday, third graders from South Elementary invited their families and community members to a chess match. Third graders have an enrichment chess unit each year as a reward for working hard on the end-of-year assessments. Students were thrilled to host and play with their families, district staff/ administrators, and community members such as the Mayor of Warsaw, Eddie Simons. All had a great time!

The South School Firsties have been learning about life cycles in reading and science. They made diagrams of the butterfly life cycle using different types of dry pasta noodles to represent the different stages of growth. They labeled each stage of the life cycle and made sure to include a title!

The South School Firsties have been working hard on studying the importance of plants and trees as well as the plant life cycle in celebration of Earth Day for the past few weeks! For two weeks, our students cared for grass plants, and when they grew nice and tall, they were able to give them cool new haircuts and hairstyles before taking them home! The first graders were very proud of their creatures and learned a lot in the process of caring for them!
